One of the fastest ways to get better at graphic design is simply by analysing other people&#8217;s work and finding ways to improve it.<\/span><\/strong><\/h4>\n<blockquote><p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Watch our first video from our YouTube series on&nbsp;<\/span><strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">becoming a Better Designer<\/span><\/strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">&nbsp;below to move straight to the tutorial!<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">In this post, we will show how a notebook cover design created in Adobe Illustrator by one of our <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/yesimadesigner.com\/memberships\/\" target=\"_blank\" style=\"outline: none;\" rel=\"noopener\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Pro Member <\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Student improves using some simple compositional techniques.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3 id=\"t-1611637347910\">Analysis of the original design<\/h3>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Before we get started here is the original design submitted by our Pro Member student for<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/caramel_muse\/\" target=\"_blank\" style=\"outline: none;\" rel=\"noopener\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">&nbsp;Sabiha Rishan<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span><img alt=\"\" data-id=\"17718\" width=\"800\" data-init-width=\"800\" height=\"720\" data-init-height=\"720\" title=\"original\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/yesimadesigner.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/original.jpg?x99157\" data-width=\"800\" data-height=\"720\" style=\"\"><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Great use of fun, a positive phrase that has no gender restrictions<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Space theme, popular for targeted age group<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Complementary colour scheme providing contrast and harmony<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Great layering of details (pattern in the background with small icons)<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Playful font choice with high contrast for legibility<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Symmetrical composition &#8211; feels balanced<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Rhythm achieved with repeated pattern and stripes in the background<\/span><\/li>\n<h3 id=\"t-1611637347911\">Improvements of the original design!&nbsp;<\/h3>\n<p>Now let take a look at three alternatives examples created by Adobe Instructor and Graphic Designer Martin Perhiniak!<\/p>\n<p style=\"\"><strong>Example 1<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span><img alt=\"\" data-id=\"17724\" width=\"393\" data-init-width=\"913\" height=\"559\" data-init-height=\"1298\" title=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/yesimadesigner.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/1.png?x99157\" data-width=\"393\" data-height=\"559\" style=\"\"><\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Play around with the&nbsp;<\/span><strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">position of the design elements<\/span><\/strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">. By positioning the focal point in the optical centre, it helps the design to feel balanced while adding interest. <\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote><p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Divide up the typography into two separate lines, so it reads cleary! You can reduce the font size less essential words such as &#8216;of.&#8217;<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> <\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote><p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Align the text using the centre of the illustration! (in this case, it will be the globe illustration. To learn more about this technique &#8211; watch the full video tutorial<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"\"><strong>Example 2<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span><img alt=\"\" data-id=\"17725\" width=\"399\" data-init-width=\"913\" height=\"567\" data-init-height=\"1298\" title=\"2\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/yesimadesigner.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/2.png?x99157\" data-width=\"399\" data-height=\"567\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"\"><strong>Example 3<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span><img alt=\"\" data-id=\"17726\" width=\"399\" data-init-width=\"913\" height=\"567\" data-init-height=\"1298\" title=\"3\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/yesimadesigner.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/3.png?x99157\" data-width=\"399\" data-height=\"567\"><\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"><strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Get creative with typography<\/span><\/strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">. A great tip is to use the&nbsp;<\/span><strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Touch-Type&nbsp;<\/span><\/strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">tool that allows you to select individual characters and adjust the scale, rotation and position.&nbsp;<\/span><\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote><p><strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Introduce an element of fun<\/span><\/strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">&nbsp;by creating less confined illustrations and allow parts of an image to spill out of the frame seemingly!<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote><p><strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Emphasise depth<\/span><\/strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">&nbsp;to help create a 3D effect. Position some of the text in front of or behind the illustration.<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote><p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Experiment with the&nbsp;<\/span><strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">scale of the main illustration<\/span><\/strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">.
